Sambisari Temple is one of temples located in Yogyakarta. Different from Borobudur and Prambanan Temples which are located in high land, Sambisari Temple is 6,5 meters lower than the earth surface.
Built at the time of King Rakai Garung government around the ninth century, this temple was ever burried by the volcanic materials of Mount Merapi. Because of that, the existence of Sambisari Temple becomes unknown. It was then unintentionally found by a farmer in 1996. After several rescuing processes, Sambisari temple was reborn again, showing its beauty and elegance.
Sambisari Temple consists of two main temples and three smaller temples which are surrounded by two layers of stone fence. There are four entrances to the temple area. In a glance, this temple is similar to stone castles in the middle of the beautiful green weeds.
The situation of Sambisari Temple is quite calm, so that visitors can enjoy themselves. The beautiful scenery of Sambisari Temple area and the hospitality of Sambisari people are the best experience you can enjoy when visiting this temple.
